There are a multitude of ways to improve the SUV and Jeep will not be one of them for the Wrangler.

instead, the Wrangler remains hopelessly unrealistic, wonderfully unapologetic and, possessing, like living with a libertarian :. no compromise and everything is wonderful when you play by their rules

Fortunately for the rest of us, who welcome a little compromise there other Jeeps. A crowd of SUVs - and soon pickup - will sport the grid to seven slots for the mountains of cash to keep CAF works well in the dark for now. When it is convenient, these cars are compared to the Wrangler to praise their abilities. When it is not, well, remember Compass

As said Robert Hunter (type): .. The problem with the 2015 Jeep Renegade is wrong with me

Exterior
I have a theory that despite the out-there sheet (compared to the rest of the Jeep range), paintball splatter decals and funky neo-nostalgic look, the renegade is not intended to attract, zit newly licensed driver side. Jeep will perhaps after former buyers Honda Element, the kind of people who ask a senior discount to Wendy for their cup of chili and a little frost. The Renegade awkward and deliberate curves "of heritage cues" are just enough to be cute. And I mean cute in the same way grandmothers means cute.

From the exterior, the Jeep Renegade ooze kitsch. Littered with half a dozen easter eggs I could not care less, there are some features such as removable roof panels MySky (which require very remarkable key or a Torx equivalent to remove) and large greenhouse I enjoy.

Mark Stevenson makes an excellent point that the Renegade is longer than you might think: it is longer than the Wrangler and only a foot shorter than a Wrangler Unlimited. Still, the Renegade has 118.6 cubic feet of total interior space front and rear overhangs courts, large wheel arches and. This is slightly less than 0 cubic Wrangler, but could easily be the case that the packaging of the Renegade is much better -. But more on that later

Access to the cargo in the back is easy and level around the hip (30 inches), and the high seating position combined with a steeply raked windshield, line in lower and upper roof offers better outward visibility than others in its segment.

Clearly, the Renegade is not exactly aerodynamic. Its square shape and upright posture collect a lot of wind on the highway, with a measurable amount of road noise that passes through the cabin.

outward appearances mean everything, and in the segment next to the Kia Soul and Nissan Juke, the renegade not made the fatal mistake of being boring. If anything, excessive kindness of the car is an asset now (even if it is a liability later); polarizing -. but effective

Interior
There are better places to be inside a Jeep Renegade, we can admit that each other now. A red Latitude Renegade darkened my door for two days before finally had the courage to turn the key (figuratively, not liter ally) and start the cute ute for a race in the mountains.

When landing my ample rear thrones in the budget of the Renegade, I immediately thought, "It could be worse." This is true. Jeep Renegade will sell a $ 18,000 without air conditioning, windows with the hand crank, steel wheels and misery as standard

is inside the Latitude, the Renegade gets a screen 5 inches, power driver and passenger seats respectable, remote start and cloth buckets. Respectably maintained, the Latitude is firmly in the middle of the road - and its better that way. I went into the Trailhawk-spec versions of the Renegade, and can report that it is like tequila :. Pay more for a Renegade does not mean that you will feel better in the morning

The 40/20 / 40 split folding rear seats are convenient for rear passengers who want a cupholder, or for a family dog push its head through while in the cargo area. I could bend my 6-foot-3-under in the back seat without eagle pose.

The point of the hip is particularly high in the Renegade and outward visibility is better than advertising. His high position and vertical view make the Renegade a car much easier to maneuver, and more accessible than a Juke.

Or maybe look out the window is better than scanning the womb. There are clever packaging tricks, like putting the middle of the air vents on top of the dashboard, but overall, the renegade feels halfway. The shifter and speaker accents visually break the Black Sea, but like the poor spares. The climate controls are bin FCA materials and there is too much white in the center console.

Infotainment
Tech The title of the Renegade may well be their 7-inch multifunction display in the gauge cluster, which is available in the Limited trim and Trailhawk. The screen is bright and easy to read, a gee-whiz touch technology begins to $ 24.795.

If you do not spring for the Trailhawk or Limited, the Renegade is on par with m any of its competitors. In all versions, Uconnect infotainment following the Jeep Renegade sports, entertainment unit relatively unfussy but long in-the-tooth varies depending on the price and trim. In standard sports models, AM / FM radio with auxiliary port base comes standard. For $ 2,385 more, the upgrade buyers to a 5-inch touch screen with Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, and a rearview camera, among other improvements. In Latitude versions, Limited, and Trailhawk, the system can be upgraded to include navigation and a slightly larger 6.5-inch screen.

The 5-inch screen into the Latitude is passable without ambition. Like most of my academic career.

Powertrain
The first priority of Renegade is likely effectiveness before anything else. The two available 4-cylinder engines that produce 0 and 180 horsepower, offer mileage in the high 20s, according to the EPA.

The bigger engine, a 2.4-liter four, dubbed TigerShark, was taken from the Chrysler 0, Jeep Cherokee, and other global car and married to the same automatic transmission 9 speeds in automobiles mentioned above. This gearbox has been a particularly difficult birth - when it first appeared in Cherokee, it seemed wildly confused - but the behavior of the transmission is slightly better in the Renegade. 180 horsepower and 175 pounds feet of the 2.4-liter engine rated torque is only slightly more powerful than the power of smaller engine, but TigerShark can tow 2,000 pounds and drinks regular fuel. With 4WD, the 2.4 liter returns 21/29/24.

Both engines are surprisingly competent in their respective arenas, although neither the engine is particularly strong. If you expect to need 4WD at some point in the future, you may want to look to the 2.4-liter engine, although there is no way to avoid the 9 speeds this configuration.

And it is the gearbox that allows the Renegade down, for now. Up to 11,000 feet, the Renegade blew and inflated to 75 mph, but only after coaxing. The transmission chased, hunted and traipsed through its gears before finding the right cog - often at the expense of speed. Going up the mountain, I set the cruise control at 75 mph only to find the car flummoxed about 69 mph. manually push the transmission in lower gears was the righ t solution, and I finally got the speed limit -. but a penalty mpg

In short, the 2.4-liter is fine. The gearbox is another story.

There will be no holes in a cross-crazy market for a domestic automaker. As Jeep continues its march towards profitability obscene, they could p ut a Power Wheels engine on a Radio Flyer with a seven-slot grille and sell much. The bar for the Renegade is incredibly high when you have V-8-powered Grand Cherokee and Wranglers with 300 horses -. There are only 10, he was 10 horses

The Renegade is adequate but somewhat tied by its transmission. It can pull up a mountain pass with a little inspiration, and a heavy right foot, but around town it handles the chore well. There is a considerable delay (and noise) before finally hiking his pants and gets along, but the same can be said about comparable engines.

In reality, the Renegade suffers from having stable companions more popular, more powerful than run and climb with more enthusiasm. The Fiat 500X, the Renegade sharing platform, has not the same charges namely because it does not have a grid of seven under.
